Week 11 weigh in

This weeks weigh in will be short and sweet (and late). Two things, I don't have a camera as Al's iphone is in for repairs and I have lost my tape measure??? I can tell you though, that I weighed 71kg (I weighed my self on Saturday morning before I left for my gastronomical junk food adventure).

This leads nicely into the feelings of uncertainty that are gaining momentum, as I'm not sure what week 12 is going to hold becuase I have had 3 days of crazyness. I ate so many things on Saturday that it's going to be hard to quantify... (I spent the day in a kitchen and I had to taste what we were serving and more...) On Sunday I was at my mums house and I continued to indulge in all things that I shouldn't and today, well lets just say it's the emotional/residual side effects of having a disasterous 2 days prior. I almost had that old familiar feeling of thinking that junk food doesn't hurt me or make me feel bad. Good news, after all the lollies I was feeling rather crap so thank God I am finally listening to my body.

So please excuse my first 3 days of week 12 energy intake because they would have to be some of the worst to date... but hey, I'm going to jump straight back on tomorrow.

Here's to next week.... one can only live in hope...

Week 10 Weigh in. A statistical analysis so far

At the 2 ½ month mark I thought I would do some number crunching…  According to the World Health Organisation and the Australian Government I still have a few centimetres and Kilograms to go before I am out of the danger zone of being a prime candidate for developing chronic diseases such as cariovascular disease and diabetes etc. I need to lose another 8kg before I enter the healthy weight range with regards to the BMI (Body Mass Index) I currently sit at 28.1. As you can see from the BMI scale below, there is still a fair amount of work to do. It’s interesting because when I tell people my goal weight they say “don’t you think that’s a bit skinny?” but in actual fact it will fall in the upper third percentile of the normal weight range, so really it’s not skinny, it’s necessary and healthy…
BMI scale
·         Underweight = <18.5
·         Normal weight = 18.5–24.9 (I want to be here 23.1)
·         Overweight = 25–29.9 (I am here at 28.1)
·         Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater (I used to be here at 32.8)- holy crap, now wonder why I felt dreadful…
In addition, I need to lose another 6cm from my waist in order to be considered at a lower risk of developing the chronic diseases previously mentioned, which mind you are linked to diet in a lot of cases. Women need to have a measurement of 80cm or less and Men 94cm or less in order to fall within the healthy range.  The waist measurement is thought to be more accurate than the BMI, as it can measure more accurately the fat that surrounds your vital organs (which is very bad…) Apparently there is a direct link between belly fat and nasty organ fat.
Ok, the thought of being so far away from being healthy is quite painful and somewhat annoying as it just illustrates how bloody fat I was and still am. On the flipside I am almost half way there (I only need to lose ½ kg to reach my ½ way mark of 12.5kg, I was hoping to be there this week, but it wasn’t meant to be.  I am trying to be positive here in order to keep on going. To finish off for the week I thought I would give you in numbers the total loss so far, it sounds so much better that way particularly the total cm… I have lost 12kg and a total of 43cm to date...

Week 9 weigh in "A festivus for the rest of us"

Good morning everyone, well it’s been a week full of things I shouldn’t eat and drink, but hey, a girl has got to do what a girl has to do! People insist on getting older, which requires an eating and drink fest, you have friends over, which requires an eating fest, you have a cook-a-thon, which requires a tasting fest, in fact there are lots of reasons for fests, just being a Sunday is a good reason for a fest… lucky I went for 4 walks otherwise it may have panned out quite differently.

Week 8 weigh in. Who said "you can't have your cake and eat it to"?

Well all odds have been defied this week, which means I’m not sure where my theory stands! A 2kg loss is nothing short of a miracle… so I guess what I have to say is this, "you can have an extremely bad blowout with nil effect if you sandwich it between 2 good weeks"…
I have been asked again and again, "what am I doing"? so I am going to summarise it for you.

* I am eating smaller portions (not man size) Alan doesn't eat like a bird...
* I don't eat in front of the TV (most of the time) and I try to be aware that I am eating.
* I have cut right back on wine, I hope the benefits of weight loss outweigh the medicinal effects of red wine on the heart!
* I try not to eat too much bread and if I do, it’s not white bread :(
* I don’t deny myself treats, instead, I factor them in.
* I try to eat salad or vegies at every meal (breakfast is sometimes a bit tricky)
* I walk (this week I walked 4 times).
* I don’t stress out if I fail, I just try to start eating healthy again as soon as I can.
In summary, I am aiming for a healthy lifestyle change based on balance. Here's to old age and great physical health…

Week 7 weigh in "Sorry it's late"...

I knew it was going to be near impossible to see any movement this week, as the past weeks eating/drinking activities rivalled those I had at Christmas time. Lets put it this way, Christmas was one of the major reasons why I started the blog in the first place… But never mind it could be a lot worse, which leads me to a theory that I want to test this week.
Theory
How long does it take for food to turn into fat and find its way onto body parts?

1 day /1 week etc.
The reason for this test is that I have had huge blowouts (close to weigh in day) since I started and they have not appeared on my weight measurement when I thought they would, however, much to my horror they have appeared a little later, regardless of whether I had a good week or not. After this week I thought for sure there would have been a nasty surprise waiting for me (blowout occured a little earlier in the week), however, there wasn’t. Therefore in theory the acid test will be next week!  To test properly, I will carry on as normal and see if I gain weight as anticipated…
